Jessica Tilghman

As a 20-year veteran Special Education teacher, Jessica Tilghman uses her professional experience to enhance, ignite, and celebrate learning for young students with diverse needs. Jessica holds a Bachelor Degree in Sociology and Social Work with teaching certificates in K-12 Learning Disabilities and K-12
Cross-Categorical Disabilities. A significant part of Jessica’s career has been leading other educators in professional development in Autism, ADHD, behavioral challenges, and inclusive classroom practices.

Her passion to continue working in the public school system affords her continuous training in ever-changing policies and legislation, Common Core, and research in the field of Special Education. Jessica has been an active and vital part of the IEP team throughout her career and is well-versed in Special Education law.
Jessica has dedicated her career to being a voice for those that have not yet found theirs. She has served in various capacities, including Cross-Categorical Resource, Homebound Teacher for the long-term suspended, Developmental Therapist for the Early Intervention program, Autism Specialist for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Emotional Behavioral Support specialist for Wake County Public Schools, and Educational Consultant for private and home school families. Jessica’s strength in cultivating relationships with students are the foundation for their academic and social successes. She believes in meeting a child where they are, using their interests as motivators, creating learning opportunities where children feel safe and always celebrate even the smallest of successes.
Jessica holds several professional certifications, including Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI), and Google Educator, with specialized training from TEACCH, Social Thinking©, Conscious Discipline©, and Zones of Regulation©. She is a busy mom of three. Most time outside of work is spent cheering loudly at her kids’ football and volleyball games and quietly rooting for her oldest at chess tournaments and Muay Thai competitions. Jessica is a self-proclaimed foodie who enjoys cooking, traveling, sports, and spending time outdoors with her partner, kids, and two dogs.
