Michael began his educational career 22 years ago as a teacher, intervention coordinator, and counselor. He is deeply committed to building strong, collaborative
relationships among students, families, community members, and all educational stakeholders. Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in urban education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and later

completed his master’s degree in counselor education at North Carolina State University. He began his career at the elementary level, teaching all subject areas with a specialization in mathematics and intervention services, before transitioning into school counseling. A dedicated school counselor for the past 15 years, Michael has served students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. He currently works as a school counselor at Athens Drive High School within the Wake County Public School System. In this role, he collaborates closely with teachers, administrators, college representatives, community organizations, families, and students to support student success. His areas of focus include executive functioning, academic planning, 504 case management, college applications, scholarship coordination, and addressing students’ personal, social, and emotional needs to help them become independent and successful high school graduates. Outside of his professional work, Michael enjoys spending time with family and friends and staying active outdoors. His interests include cycling, running, swimming, hiking, and camping.
